Black Walnut (LA)
Smaller and crunchier than English walnuts, they have a rich, nutty flavor that actually intensifies during the cooking process. Their flavor is so strong and smoky, in fact, that they're generally not recommended for snacking. Instead, black walnuts are used in baked goods or treats such as breads, cookies and candy, or in entrees and salads.
